On April 22, 2024, members of the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) recovered a stolen truck, trailer, and skid steer and arrested one male after leaving a rural property in Mountain View County.

As a result of the above arrest, the property was held and officers of SAD CRU, in partnership with Didsbury RCMP, Airdrie RCMP, and RCMP Auto Theft Unit, executed a search warrant on April 23, 2024.

As a result of the search warrant, the following was seized:

  • Six stolen trucks, including a Blazer, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, and Dodge Ram
  • Four utility trailers
  • A Polaris ATV
  • A Raptor Keystone RV
  • Two flat deck trailers
  • Two shotguns
  • A bolt action rifle
  • Two .22 calibre rifles
  • Thousands of rounds of ammunition.
  • Six industrial heaters
  • A red Norco Sight vlt 12 speed Mountain Bike (serial number removed and RCMP are still trying to locate owners)

Michael McGill (44), a resident of Mountain View County, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Fail to Comply with a Release Order
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, McGill was remanded for Alberta Court of Justice on April 25, 2024, in Airdrie.

In addition to the stolen property, RCMP discovered numerous animals on the property in distress and have partnered with the Alberta SPCA. 56 dogs of various breeds were seized from the property, as well as 10 sheep, 9 llamas, 4 chickens, and 3 geese. The investigation into the welfare of the animals is being conducted by the Alberta SPCA, so please contact them with questions about this portion of the investigation.
