Two Lacombe curlers have been named the RDP Athletes of the week.

Cassidy Blair a 1st year Bachelor of Kinesiology student playing on the mixed curling team led her team to a silver medal in Airdrie. Blair was also recognized as ACAC Women’s Curler of the Year and an ACAC Mixed Curling All-Conference team selection.

Sam Goodey, also from Lacombe, is a 2nd year Kinesiology Fitness and Health student. 

Goodey played an integral role in the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings winning gold at the ACAC Curling Championships. With the Kings down one student-athlete, Lacombe’s Goodey stepped up to take on additional sweeping duties. With the gold medal victory, Goodey and the Kings qualified for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/Curling Canada College Championships in Fredericton, New Brunswick from March 12-16.

Five student-athletes from the RDP Curling program, including Blair, have been recognized by the ACAC for their outstanding play and contributions to their sport.

 

This week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team will begin the best-of-three semi-final against the NAIT Ooks. The Queens will host the first game on Friday, March 1 at 7 pm.
